Người bệnh có thể từ tình trạng này quay lại trạng thái bình thường không bệnh lý, tuy nhiên cũng có thể trở thành bệnh lý nặng hơn là sa sút trí tuệ, phải sống lệ thuộc vào người khác nếu có nhiều yếu tố nguy cơ sau đây:
